 Experts analized ETF World landscape in seminar organized by with S&P Dow Jones Indices


For the second year, Santiago Exchange and S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI) gathered experts from Chile and Andean markets at the ETF Masterclass. Local and global strategies and opportunities with ETFs ), the growth of index-based and passive investments, lessons learned from global experiences, the mix between the active and passive world, and dividend-based strategies were at the core of the panel discussions.

Presenters and panelists included John Davies, General Director of Global Products, S&P Dow Jones Indices; Craig Lazzara, Managing Director and Global Director of Investment Strategies in Indexes, S&P Dow Jones Indices; María Sánchez, Associate Director, Global Research & Design, S&P Dow Jones Indices; Leonardo Vázquez, WMS Strategies Beta Strategies and Integration, Itaú Corpbanca.

José Antonio Martínez, Santiago Exchange´s CEO commented: "Worldwide, approximately 40% correspond to a passive administration, while in Chile, passive management represents less than 1%. We still have room for growth with passive portfolio management and the development of ETFs in Chile. Exchanging international experience and lessons learned at this seminar help us foster the index business in the Chilean capital markets”.

Two panels were also held at the event. The first, moderated by Lucy Pamboukdjian, Chief Commercial Officer of the Santiago Exchange, addressed active and passive investment, the addition of index-based products in the asset management strategies, other trends as ESG investment were addressed by the panel participants, which included Jorge Meyer de Pablo, Strategy Manager Local Assets of Banco Security; Mauricio Cañas, Executive Director of BTG Pactual Chile, and Silvia Kitchener, Director of Equity Indices for Latin America, S&P Dow Jones Indices.

The second discussed the opportunities for the investment of Fixed Income, its benefits, challenges and lessons from the experiences of other countries, which was in charge of Jaime Merino, Director of Fixed Income Indices at S&P Dow Jones Indices. Commenters were Vitor Batista, Head of Development of Product & Marketing, MIRAE Asset Global Investments Management; and Juan Camilo Guzmán Contreras, Head of Fixed Income, Santander Asset Management in Chile.

The ETF Masterclss is part of the agreement that Santiago Exchange and S&P Dow Jones signed in 2015 for the development of new equity indices, and generation of greater knowledge interexchange on index-based strategies in which S&P DJI handles one third of managed assets worldwide.
